SWTOR Game Update 6.3 “The Dark Descent” releases on April 27 2021. It brings new PvE storyline in the form of a Flashpoint called “Secrets of the Enclave” featuring Darth Malgus, new Galactic Seasons game system, new Ranked Season 14, new Double XP event and the usual tweaks, bug fixes and quality of life improvements

Note: There are no story spoilers in this article, beyond the tiny hint that Malgus will be involved, which BioWare already shared during their March Live Stream.

The SWTOR story continues with a new Flashpoint on Dantooine

BioWare is finally ready with the next story chapter (not literally a chapter, don’t worry) of SWTOR’s narrative. The Dark Descent update features a brand new Flashpoint called “Secrets of the Enclave”.

You will follow Darth Malgus’ steps leading you to Dantooine’s ancient Jedi Enclave ruins. These ruins are majorly popular location for any Knights of the Old Republic fans.

“In this new Flashpoint, players will visit the ruins of the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine in pursuit of Darth Malgus. Experience a unique story and fight different enemies based on your alliance to the Empire or the Republic. The Flashpoint’s Story-Solo Mode will not be available on PTS to avoid story spoilers. Only the Veteran Mode can be tested straight away, and the Master mode will be available at a later date.” – the official announcement states.

BioWare staff admitted that they have been looking for an opportunity to take the player to the Dantooine Enclave. It has been barely visible in the distance as you explore the Daily Area on Dantooine. Now you will be able to jump down and explore its secrets. All this while unraveling the biggest secret – why is Darth Malgus there and what is he searching for.

The Flashpoint will bring both new and old faces alongside Malgus. You can learn more about the new companions and other characters you will meet during your adventures in the Enclave in my SWTOR 6.3 live stream recap. BioWare hosted this event on March 18th 2021.

A new Galactic system will reward you for playing the game regularly

The Galactic Seasons is a brand new legacy-wide game system coming to SWTOR with the release of patch 6.3. It is a natural extension to the Daily Login Rewards system. It offers you great rare and unique rewards for completing various daily and weekly tasks marked as “Priority Objectives” in your Conquest objectives list.

The Galactic Levels system is available to all players, regardless of their current subscription status. Subscribers will level up through this new system quicker and easier and will also earn more and better rewards compared to F2P and Preferred statuses.

You can learn everything about the Galactic Seasons system in SWTOR from the in-depth guide I have prepared. It contains basic overview and explanation of how everything works, how to participate, how to earn levels and, of course, what rewards await you for leveling up and what can you get from the new Galactic Seasons vendors.

The first seasons is designed to last about 150 days or five months. It starts with the release of SWTOR Game Update 6.3. During the first season you will be able to get a brand new companion and level it up quickly to Influence Rank 50, get new outfits and cosmetic items and a lot more!

Two new Fleet Strongholds and new Stronghold cap

The Galactic Seasons system brings two new vendors on the Republic and Empire Fleets. One of them offers deeds to the brand new Fleet Penthouse Strongholds.

To get these strongholds you will need to earn special new currency called Galactic Seasons Tokens. These tokens are awarded to you in limited quantity as you go through the Galactic Season’s Leveling system.

During the course of the first Galactic Season you will be able to earn a maximum of fifteen Tokens. Each of the Republic and Empire Fleet Strongholds cost 8 tokens. This means that you will have to be careful which one you choose to unlock and decorate first, because you will be able to get the second one as early as the second Galactic Season starts.

Luckily I have a very detailed overview of the Fleet Penthouse Strongholds in SWTOR. The linked guide will help you find out everything you need to know about them, including tours in images and with video walkthroughs, so you can choose which one to get for yourself first.

Ranked Season 14 Begins with Update 6.3

As soon as SWTOR Game update 6.3 launches Ranked PvP Season 14 will begin as well. Shortly after launch all players that qualified for the top tiers rewards, will get what they have earned.

Season 13 Ranked PvP Rewards are now available on the PvP Vendor, Giradda the Hutt, who is located on the Fleet.

SWTOR Refer a Friend program has ended

It has been so many years since BioWare introduced the Refer a Friend program to SWTOR players. You’d think this thing will never change or go away. Well, it just did.

Starting on that day, you will no longer be able to refer new players into the program via your RAF link–however any current referrals will remain in place.” – Keith Kanneg, SWTOR game director, explained.

This program allowed players to share a unique URL with their friends inviting them to try out SWTOR with a “Subscriber level” experience for a full week.

This mount was one of the rewards BioWare gave to people for inviting their friends to play the game

Unfortunately, EA was not happy with the results this program brought in and lately there have been massive exploits like rich in-game players offering Credits to other players for clicking their Referral links.

This program did not meet its goals. It was originally designed to bring fresh new blood into the game, but for one reason or another, it did not succeed. Or not as well as the company hoped it would.

Why are we closing the program down? Those who have been playing our game for years and have used the program understand that right now, RAF is not quite meeting that goal.” – Keith confirmed.

To the many people, who have used my own Referral link over the years, I hope you have enjoyed your week of Subscription-like gameplay time and I thank you for honoring me of being your Referral.

Double XP event starts on May 4th

Every year the Double XP event returns in SWTOR for May the Fourth. This day is known as the “Star Wars Day” among us fans. BioWare honors this with a few days of double experience earned event in SWTOR.

This year the event will start on May 4th and will last until May 18th. That’s two full weeks of double experience. Time to level up some new alts and experience new stories or relive good old memories!

More important changes you should know about

Below I have the full patch notes for SWTOR 6.3, but here I want to emphasize on a few notable changes that don’t fit the major categories you have been reading about so far. Still, the following are interesting and important to know about!

The Legacy Stronghold limit of fifteen will rise up to twenty with the release of SWTOR 6.3. This is most likely done due to the addition of the two new Fleet Apartments, part of the Galactic Seasons system.

SWTOR Rishi Stronghold - The Hideout (8)SWTOR Rishi Stronghold - The Hideout (8)
The Rishi Stronghold is one of the largest in the game!

Any new player is probably all to familiar with the struggle to unlock more cool Legacy features. BioWare is lowering the level requirements for a number of key Legacy-wide unlocks such as Legacy Fleet Pass, Legacy Travel, Rocket Boost (not Rocket Boots!) and Improved Priority Transport to your Starship. All of these will be available at much earlier Legacy level now. For any veterans like myself, this isn’t of any importance, but it doesn’t man I will skip over it.

Because of the canceled Refer a Friend program, BioWare is starting to look for ways to add to the core game the bonuses and perks it used to offer. With 6.3 all players will get for free the ability to Display Titles and Unify Colors. Yes, even Free-to-play!

A few Cartel Market armor pieces have had their appearances fixed, so they no longer clip through other items or display bugged. The list includes Cybernetic Pauldron’s set, The Patient Defender’s set, The Force Pilgrim’s set.

The refund timer of a number of eligible items will continue to run down even if your character is offline. BioWare’s Chris Schmidt gave more details on this in a forum post:

Previously, the refund timer for items purchased off of a vendor only counted down while that character was in-game. As of the 6.3 update, this will change to real time. What this means is if you purchase an item off of a vendor, and that item has a refund timer on it, the timer will count down whether that character is logged in or not.

This is in-line with how the current timer for Cartel Market items works. The ability to exchange items looted between party members in Flashpoints and Operations, which also uses a timer, will not change and count down via in-game time only.

The reason behind this change is we observed some unintended behavior where the mechanics of the refund timer were being used to store more resources than intended by limits intentionally set in order to balance the game economy’s inflows and outflows.

Preferred players can now equip their characters with items over iLevel 270 (Spoils of War Premium and Prototypes items) as intended. While Item Level 270 is just the beginning of the EndGame Vertical Progression in SWTOR, it’s nice to know that this issue has been fixed now.

One of the Tactical items used by the Dirty Fighting Gunslingers and Virulence Snipers – Ultraviolet Blast – has been redesigned. Its new bonus is now the following:

Hemorrhaging Blast / Weakening Blast finishes off all your directly applied bleed / poison effects on the target at once, dealing all their remaining damage. While the target is affected by Hemorrhaging Blast / Weakening Blast, Wounding Shots / Cull converts your lingering poison effects on the target into the original poison effects. Hemorrhaging Blast / Weakening Blast’s cooldown is increased by 6 seconds.

The start of Ranked PvP Season 14 is not the only good news for the PvP community! Not long ago BioWare took off a few of the Warzone maps from the rotation, because of performance and lag issues caused while playing on them, which affected players very badly. Thanks to a number of fixes the Huttball, Quesh Huttball and Vnadin Huttball maps are back in the map rotation.

In addition to that the PvP brackets have been merged. Instead of three, there will only be two. Players from level 1 all the way to level 74 will be matched against each other. The second bracket is the EndGame players at level 75. Horrible decision in terms of balancing, but the low level brackets are struggling a lot on several servers constantly.

On the Conquest front… yeah, we almost went a patch without a change to the Conquest system – the Guild Commendations will be rewarded for completed Planetary Invasions during the next conquest event. BioWare has also updated the way indefinitely repeatable objectives are displayed in the Achievements tracker.
